Samsung mSATA 860 EVO 1TB

I can not remember the exact date but when I bought this solid state drive back in 2018, it cost me well over few hundred bucks. Back in those days such drives were not widely available. Even if it was available, it was not meant to be used for Windows installation drive or boot drive. Let's not forget that they were quite expensive back then and I think somewhat they still are. I am definitely not talking about enterprise users rather I stated those sentences purely from retail consumer's point of view.

SATA based 2.5 inch solid state drives slowly took over the 2.5 inch hard drive segment of the market and users slowly adopted to that as the days went by. This was more prevalent among the laptop users as almost all the laptops used 2.5 inch hard drives for greater portability.

However, mSATA drives couldn't gain that much popularity among traditional retail consumers. I always had a backup drive from the early days of my computing years. So, when mSATA based solid state drives did hit the market, I figured this could be a great option for backup medium. Something I could easily carry with me and have large backup data within my reach.

So, I got this mSATA SSD drive and here's the result summary that I got from Windows System Assessment Tool (WinSAT). Bare in mind that this is an SSD drive that uses SATA protocol. So, the read-write speed may not look as impressive as any PCIe based NVME SSD drive.

I definitely did not buy this drive for read-write speed rather the entire idea was to store large amount of data on a smaller and fairly reliable SSD drive. I am using this drive for over 6/7 years now and it still works just fine without any issue.

Hopefully this drive would serve me few more years before I get a true SSD based NAS drive. Finger crossed.
