Karissa describes herself as a lover, yogi, foodie, and a native Detroiter. She leads a passionate life and balances indulgence with healthy nutrition by adhering to the 80/20 rule. Karissa wants her attitude on life to serve as an inspiration to everyone who sees her website.
Karissa's parents played different responsibilities in the kitchen when she was growing up. Her dad was the family's chef, inspired by her grandma's cooking abilities, while her mom only knew a few dishes. While Karissa's cooking genes came from her father, she honed her technique, choosing to play around with ingredients rather than simply following recipes. She is regarded by her friends as a discriminating diner who, when dining out, frequently alters dishes to suit her tastes for ingredients that are organic, non-GMO, and sustainably sourced.
After moving to Detroit more than ten years ago, Karissa took her first yoga class. She found the deeper link between mind and body after being initially drawn to the physical parts. Her haven, yoga helped her through difficult periods and ultimately led her to become a teacher. This experience taught Karissa the significance of being true to oneself, even if it meant disappointing other people. She now invites people to join her on her path of optimism and self-discovery on her website, where she discusses her love of yoga and healthy living.
