A Sad Day for New Yorkers

I was up all night working on my computer. This morning as I was preparing to wrap up my work, I learned that there was an active shooting taking place in New York City. I rushed to news websites and read some of the details and it was heart breaking. Number of individuals were killed and the attacker killed himself at the end. What a shame! Interestingly, a suicide note was also recovered which claims that the attacker was suffering from CTE.

At least four individuals are confirmed to be dead as of now. An NYPD police officer, an employee of Blackstone and two other male civilians are among the deceased ones. Officer Didarul Islam was 36-year-old and left behind two young sons and an eight months pregnant wife. It is truly sad and tragic at the same time as the family lost their loved one.

Not so surprisingly, when I saw the name of the police officer, I knew right away that he could be of south Asian origin as his name sounds quite familiar and common in this region. Soon enough, I learned that he was originally from Moulvibazar district which is located at the north eastern part of Bangladesh.

All the major online newspaper in Bangladesh are covering the news of the slain police officer. The Daily Star is the largest circulating English language based daily newspaper in Bangladesh also published a detailed article on officer Didarul Islam. This is a devastating news for the people of Bangladesh as well as they lost one of their son of the land.

Little over a week earlier, the entire nation of Bangladesh was mourning the loss of 35 lives because of the fighter jet crash in the capital city of Dhaka.

I left New York back in April and am currently staying in Bangladesh as we welcome our newest member of the family. Although I am not in New York, I tend to keep myself up to date on what is going on back home in NYC. At this time, my family and I mourn the loss of lives. Our hearts and prayers go out to the families who lost their loved ones in this senseless act of violence. May all of their souls rest in eternal peace. Be careful and be safe.
