Fatal Plan Crash in South Korea

It is early morning over here in New York City and I just learned that a fatal plane crash took place in South Korea's Muan city. As I was browsing through some news portal, this news was being flashed as the breaking news. According to the news article, the plane has been identified as a Boeing 737-800 which was being operated by the Jeju Air.

This particular flight 2216 of Jeju Air was carrying 175 passengers and 6 crew members on board from Thailand and it was scheduled to land at the Muan International Airport. A dramatic video has also been posted online that unfolds the entire incident. The videos shows the plane landed on it's belly without any landing gear and then the flight veered off the runway at the airport and crashed into a concrete barrier.

It is still not clear how many lives has been lost on this tragic accident but the Korea Herald reported that number is well above 120. However, the authorities are warning that the number could rise to 179 as 2 crew members has survived. Most of the passengers were South Korean and there were 2 Thai nationals. The condition of wreckage suggest that that the chances of finding any other survivors are fairly slim at this point.

The rescue teams are present at the location where the incident took place and continuing their effort to locate the remains of missing passengers. The cause of the crash is still unclear and the airline is awaiting official investigation results from government authorities.

No matter whatever the cause is, such loss of lives are unexpected and tragic at the same time. My heart goes out to the families who lost their loved ones on this accident. May their soul rest in peace.
