At the back-end of this site, I built a little widget that shows the graph of post counts by month of this year and last year. It gives me a sense of productivity as far as blogging is concerned. I built this widget couple of years back to track the listing of blog sites on my catalog section. However, that had a dramatic affect on my blogging productivity. It seemed like I started focusing more on the numbers of blog sites being listed on our database than actually writing any blog post in here.
It took me little while but I eventually realized that for last couple of years the number of blog posts on each month are not going up at all as it should have been. In fact, it went down significantly. Finally I made necessary adjustments at the back-end last night to show the number of blog posts being writing on every month on that widget instead. This change already started affecting in a positive way. I woke up late and and logged into the site to check out the status of the graph and here I am finding a topic to write on.
Another important issue is, the home page of this site is in mess for quite sometime now. When I checked the Google Search Console couple of days back, I realized Google is not crawling my pages and rather it's removing the existing pages that they had on their database. I honestly think not having my home page in order could be one reason behind that. I can't say it for sure but that's a probability at this point.
When I built this CMS, I purely had blogging in my mind and listing blog sites for my visitors to check them out was another important reason. So, when I built the sitemap file in XML format, I mostly focused on listing the sites but not the blog posts. This is something I am also currently working on. The sitemap should include the blog posts as well.
I added RSS Feed for my blog site as well so that crawler bots can browse through the latest posts updates. I think what I missed is RSS Subscription feature. This is something I am also prioritizing at this point even though I didn't make up my mind on which service to use.
