John Wick

Keanu Reeves is undoubtedly one of the biggest Hollywood star but sadly I had never been a fan of him. Though I have had the opportunity to watch some of his work but somehow he could never left a scratch mark on my mind until I watched John Wick. I read some articles online about John Wick series and was intrigued by this fictional hit-man character immediately. I decided to watch the movie and seriously I enjoyed the movie from beginning to end.

Written by Derek Kolstad, John Wick is the central character of this movie and thus it was named after him. After watching the movie, I understood why it was absolutely justified to name this movie after a fictional character. The only movie that really popped up in my mind after watching this movie was Hitman. Though the Agent 47 from Hitman and John Wick resembles similar character of an assassin, they are fundamentally different as far as the storyline is concern.

Plot: The story of this movie evolves around Johnathan Wick aka John Wick portrayed by Keanu Reeves, a hitman, who left the dark world of blood, guns and strict code of rules, regulation of high table. He leaves his past for his wife, the only love of his life with a hope to have a peaceful life. His dream was short lived as his wife passes away. Helen Wick the wife of John, left a dog for his husband as a memory of her.

John settles down in his life and carry's around the dog with him all the time until he meets with the only son of a Russian mobster Viggo Tarasov (Michael Nyqvist) at a gas station. Impressed by the Car of John, Iosef Tarasov (Alfie Allen), the son of the mobster asks for the price of the car but John denies to sell his car. Iosef let John go only to hit him back at his own residence to steal the car and kills his dog without knowing that John is an assassin who worked for his father Viggo way back.

Furious by the whole incident, John explodes in anger and seeks vengeance at any cost. Sure, killing the only son of a mobster is no joke but John is determined to punish anyone who added an insult to an injury. John figures out who stole his car and soon we get to see who John really is, a ruthless assassin who doesn't stop until he finished what he started. The blood bath that follows for the rest of the movie, is a saga of violence that lifts this movie to a different level.

Verdict: This is not your typical action movie. This is well above and beyond PG-13 and more. The amount of gun battles and physical violence that has been portrayed on this movie is surreal and very graphic. However, one must not underestimate the grievance that a person like John Wick, an assassin may have gone through to commit such atrocities. Though there are no way of justifying such violence, then again who can forget that it's a Hollywood Movie? The story of this movie almost turned a villain into a functional super hero. This is what you have asked for and it has been delivered. I must admit that some of the sound tracks on this movie was simply amazing. I loved it. This movie earned a solid 4 from me out of 5. I took half the point because of sheer violence and half for destroying John's car at the end.
