Samsung EVO Plus Micro SDXC 128GB

Couple of years back when the entire world was affected by the Coronavirus, I was in New York. Things were getting from bad to worse and like many others, I was stuck at home pretty much twenty four hours a day. However, it didn't take long for me to loose my patience and I was desperate to leave home and step outside. The question that remained is what to do when I will be outside? Well, I decided to take a walk and explore some of the streets that I generally don't walk on regular basis.

I thought of getting an action camera so that I could make some videos as I walk. I ended up getting GoPro Hero 9 camera and started walking. There are hundreds of such walking videos that you find on my YouTube channel. Feel free to check them out from my playlist whenever you get time. All the walking and travel videos up until now were recorded on a GoPro camera using a single Samsung EVO Plus Micro SDXC card. This card with a Micro SD to standard SD card adapter.

I performed simple test with the Windows System Assessment Tool (WinSAT) from the command prompt and this is the result I got for this particular card. To be quite honest, I expected it to perform little better than this. After using this card for over four years and recording countless videos, I can not really complain.

Random 16.0 Read11.25 MB/s
Sequential 64.0 Read77.60 MB/s
Sequential 64.0 Write74.96 MB/s
Avg. Read time with Sequential Writes5.121 ms
Latency 95th Percentile14.696 ms
Latency Maximum40.201 ms
Avg. Read Time with Random Writes2.865 ms

I mostly recorded 4K videos on this card. So, the sequential read and write score should have been little better but luckily I never had any issue so far. I was able to record half an hour or longer videos with any frame drop.

To transfer the videos, I mostly connected my camera directly to my PC and used it as the card reader instead of using any other dedicated card reader. I may have used the Samsung card reader once or twice and that about it. I never liked and I still don't like the idea of ejecting the card from the camera back and forth as it damages the pinout.
