The satellite based internet service provider Starlink has commenced it's operations in Bangladesh. In a post on it's official X account, Starlink has confirmed the availability of it's services in Bangladesh starting from today. After Bhutan, Bangladesh is the second South Asian country that opened up their door for Starlink and their services.
Back in March 25th of this year, the Chief Advisor Prof. Muhammad Yunus directed the relevant authorities to take steps to ensure the commercial launch of Starlink's satellite broadband internet services in Bangladesh within the ninety days time-frame. Bangladesh has developed an NGSO guideline within the provided time-frame and Starlink applied for the license to operate as an satellite internet operator. The application was processed and eventually approved by the authorities.

It is being expected that the Starlink services will greatly improve connectivity within the nation, specially in remote and underserved areas. Although the services are a bit expensive for average Bangladeshi internet users, it creates a sustainable alternative for businesses and other large institutions that heavily depends on high-speed internet connection.
At this point, there are two monthly packages are available. Residential connection will cost around $50 or 6000 BDT and residential light connection will cost around $35 or 4200 BDT. However, there would be one-time setup cost for equipment needed for the connection which is around $385 or 47000 BDT. The equipment includes the satellite dish antenna, the mounting tripod, cable and a Wi-Fi router. These services can be ordered from the Starlink's website directly.
