Jamie began her professional journey as a research oceanographer but decided to switch gears after being diagnosed with celiac disease, which made her job's travel demands challenging to meet.

Despite her initial disdain for cooking as a young adult, Jamie always had a soft spot for baking. The turning point came in 2011 when she was diagnosed with celiac disease, almost causing her to give up baking due to the challenges posed by the lack of gluten-free 1-to-1 flours at the time.

Little did Jamie know; this marked the beginning of her culinary journey to fall in love with cooking. Admittedly, the process was not swift. Her primary objective was always to create delicious meals in the shortest time possible, allowing her to return to her true love, the great outdoors of the Pacific Northwest. Jamie found solace in activities like hiking with her dog Kaia, rock climbing, and cycle touring.

The initial recipes shared on her site were a personal collection, born during the year Jamie took a break from her science teaching job in 2019 for a year of outdoor adventures with her partner, Lucas. Originally intended only for personal use, these recipes now serve as a testament to her culinary evolution and a source of inspiration for gluten-free enthusiasts everywhere.
