My Texas Kitchen

Alaine is the author of the blog. She is a wife, mom, Registered Dietitian, and blogger here at this blog. She started this blog in May 2014 while studying Nutritional Sciences at Texas A&M University. As she started her professional career in Clinical Dietetics, she did not devote much time to blogging.

She loves the dietetics profession and was happily working and thriving as a Lead Clinical Dietitian at an inpatient hospital when her life suddenly changed. Her healthy and active one-year-old had two nearly back-to-back hospitalizations for unexpected issues. The second medical emergency was very traumatic and completely changed her priorities. She became a stay-at-home mom shortly after.

Later in the year, she realized she needed an outlet and started blogging more frequently. Her goal for My Texas Kitchen is to help others by sharing family-approved recipes, balanced meal ideas, and tips for busy families. She wants her friends and family to avoid the traps of trending fad diets, pricey quick fixes, and false promises of wellness. She hopes to be a source of evidenced-based nutrition information in a world of information overload.

Many of the recipes she develops are ones created for her family. She follows a non-diet mentality when cooking for her family, focusing on providing balanced and nourishing meals, which she believes means nourishing the soul too. This means you will see some treats, baked goods, and occasionally some traditional comfort food here. Due to a food allergy, they became a tree-nut-free household in December 2017, so her recipes will not include any tree-nuts going forward. Most of the recipes are reflective of foods that are readily available to her in the small Central Texas town she calls home. She also enjoys developing recipes for other health concerns, including heart health and diabetes. If there is a certain topic or nutritional concern you would be interested in seeing more of on this blog, please contact her. Her goal is to help others through this blog.
