I am in Bangladesh right now and today the Government of Bangladesh lifted it's blockade on the Internet after it ordered the nationwide shutdown back in 18th July. Initially it was reported that the internet will be available in limited areas on 23rd July. However, the internet was turned on for few minutes and then it was made unavailable for the masses again. Today most government owned offices, banks, media related institutions were ordered to opened for limited time (11am-3pm BST) and the internet was made available in certain commercial areas only. Mobile internet and social media sites are also blocked.
On a personal level, I am supporting this movement wholeheartedly despite the fact that my later father fought for Bangladesh back in 1971. However, my father never wanted any benefit for his participation at the independence war. As his family, we also do not want or claim any special privileges and I think that's the right way to move forward.
I was on the street with the students and public back in July 18th and 19th. I was able to shoot videos but unfortunately I can't share them right now. If things become a bit normal, I will try to upload them on my channel and then share the videos with you guys at some point down the line.
Video of July 19th, 2024.If you look at the history of Bangladesh, you will see that the student body of this country always came out on the street in the face of injustice and they prevailed over pretty much everything and everyone. Time and time again they proved that the youth is the ultimate power to win over something naturally seems impossible to fight against. I am quite confident that this time won't be any different.
Long live student power, long live Bangladesh.
