Air connectivity has been restored between Bangladesh and Pakistan after well over a decade. National flag carrier of Bangladesh, Biman resumed direct flight from the capital Dhaka to Karachi of Pakistan. A flight (BG-341) from Dhaka, departed today for Jinnah International Airport in Karachi from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at 8:15pm (BST).
Pakistan Airport Authority (PAA) has confirmed the arrival of Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight on Thursday, January 29 of 2026 at around 11:00pm (PKT). After landing at the Karachi airport, the Biman airlines fight was welcomed with a traditional water cannon salute. The return flight (BG-342) has been scheduled to leave Karachi at 12:01AM (PKT) of January 30th and the flight will land in Dhaka at around 4:20am (BST) on the same day.
An inauguration ceremony was held at the Dhaka airport. Adviser of the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism, Sheikh Bashir Uddin, Imran Haider, high commissioner of Pakistan to Bangladesh, CEO of Biman Bangladesh and others were present at the event. According to a press released issued by Biman, initially flights will be operated twice a week, on Thursday and Saturday.
This development comes at a time of growing bilateral relationship between the countries following the fall of former prime minister Sheikh Hasina's regime in 2024. Both Bangladesh and Pakistan are taking multi-dimensional steps in recent times to rebuild their diplomatic, trade and people to people communication after many years of somewhat strained relationship.
The issue of re-starting direct flights between the two nation were brought up during the visit of Pakistani Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar to Bangladesh which marked the first high-level diplomatic engagement in over a decade.
